Professional & Academic Experience
At Carollo Engineers, Jade supports PFAS treatment and potable-reuse planning for utilities across Florida. She built a predictive tool forecasting influent PFAS concentrations for the City of Tampa, supported Suspended Ion Exchange pilot studies contributing to WRF Projects 5380 and 5418, and developed a PFAS risk-and-decision framework comparing XBAT, CBAT, and RBAT treatment technologies for wastewater-to-potable-reuse pilots. Her work has also included designing a potable-reuse planning framework for organic carbon, disinfection byproducts, and emerging contaminants; assessing the statewide impact of proposed PFAS limits on Florida utilities' permits under Chapter 62-550; building a performance dashboard for the Bee Ridge Wastewater Treatment Plant's 5-stage Bardenpho process; and preparing planning documents for the City of Tampa's Tippin Water Treatment Facility.
At Wright-Pierce, Jade supports municipal infrastructure design and planning within the SE One Water Group. She has contributed to pump-station design and force-main routing evaluations, created field maps for the Pinellas Find & Fix sewer-rehabilitation project to guide manhole and CCTV inspections and smoke testing, and mapped water-service-line networks by commissioner district to build a system-asset inventory. She also evaluated odor-control alternatives for the City of Orlando and led internal knowledge-sharing sessions on biological treatment processes, water policy, and environmental data collection.
As a Graduate Research Assistant in USF's Environmental & Water Resources Engineering Lab, Jade is redesigning biofilters and developing deep-learning prediction models (LSTM, Neural ODE, SINDy) for micropollutant removal. She co-developed a novel biofilm-recovery method with the Southern Nevada Water Authority that led to a peer-reviewed publication, and built interactive R Shiny dashboards for AWWA's Arsenic subgroup and for tracking inorganic contaminant violations and compliance timelines nationwide. Her research has also included a multi-level intervention analysis with ASDWA on statewide nitrification action plans, a Relative Health Indicator analysis quantifying PFAS regulatory impacts, and a design-and-cost tool for FDACS covering biochar-amended bioretention systems for nitrogen removal.
As Research Lab Manager for USF Research & Innovation, Jade oversees an experimental lab supporting more than 30 graduate students and 7 principal investigators. She leads lab orientations, emergency-response procedures, EH&S training, and chemical inventory control, and developed standard operating procedures for flow cytometry, gas chromatography, and other analytical instruments. Under her management, the lab has achieved zero safety incidents over four years.
During her co-op with the City of Tampa's Tippin Water Treatment Facility, Jade led treatment-optimization studies using jar testing, ATP testing, and chlorine-decay testing to improve sludge thickening and dewatering, and conducted pilot-scale biofiltration studies to optimize granular activated carbon particle size and contaminant removal. She developed an Excel VBA tool adopted citywide for hydrant-flushing scheduling, prepared aquifer storage and recovery reports for FDEP, and supported major research initiatives including the Tampa Augmentation Project and a harmful-algal-bloom monitoring study (WRF#4912) with the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
As an undergraduate researcher in the C.L. Henderson Group, Jade modeled and simulated block copolymer phase separation using molecular dynamics software including MOE, VMD, and HooMD.
As a Quality Control Analyst at Catalent Pharma Solutions, Jade supported stability studies, revised stability SOPs, and performed equipment calibration and QC testing against product specifications. She applied analytical chemistry, microbiology, and chromatography methods in accordance with GxP and FDA requirements, and managed retained samples and chemical inventories to keep the lab inspection-ready.
At Thailand's National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Jade supported development of a selective cultivation medium for Bifidobacterium growth, performed DNA extractions and gel electrophoresis analysis, and analyzed genomic fingerprinting patterns. She also delivered a video presentation the center used to train volunteers on proper stool-sample collection.
Professional Affiliation & Service
At USF, Jade served as the laboratory manager for the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering laboratory, improving lab safety and compliance and reducing laboratory violations and reported injuries to zero. She is invited to peer review papers, serves on national committees, leads the local USF Student Chapter of the American Water Works Association, and mentors students and water professionals. She also contributes to Operation WETVET, which recognizes and supports veteran members of the Florida Section AWWA, and Operation FISHHOOK, which promotes water-sector career pathways for veterans.
